This phone has a lot of nice features...the only problem is...the features don't make phone calls. The reception on this phone is absolutely HORRIFIC. I am constantly dropping calls and walking around tilting my head in every different direction trying not to drop the call that I happen to be on. I own a construction company and am constantly dropping calls with vendors and worse yet customers-Very unprofessional. I think nextel has a good thing in the direct connect, but if you're considering a new phone...wait and see if the merger between Nextel and Sprint takes place. If it does you can bet there will be a new platform and your Nextel phone will soon be obsolete. In my humble opinion...Nextel(Motorola) dropped the ball on this phone. Stay clear of the i730 and save yourself high blood pressure and unnecessary aggrevation.

Great phone! GPS works, I can upload my own MIDI songs and wallpaper. It NEVER has dropped a connection on me which leads me to beleive that it's a Nextel thing only (I'm with Telus). The phone itself is great!

9/13/04 I wish there was a 0 rating. Hated to give it a 1. SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS. Stay away from this phone and stay away from nextel. Constantly drops calls and bad direct connect even with full signal and battery. New phone had to be serviced by motorola. Nextel said 'new phones are warranted through motorola'. My ass for a $150 phone and contract. I'm throwing mine in the lake and claiming insurance. Unless they realocate some of that NASCAR revenue to new phones and towers, STAY AWAY FROM NEXTEL.

Great phone!!! Try to keep it as clean as possible. Amazing how you can get your favorite songs on your phone as your ring. GPS is incredible. Even tells you, 'Make next left.' Great audio directions!!! A lot better than the pewny little i830 which has half the battery life of the i730. So for anyone who thinks the i730 has a short battery life, your sadly mistaken. Even the Nextel co-workers say IT SUCKS!!! I730 rules all, except for the new i930 coming out!!!!!!!!!

Constant call droppping.Phone software hangs up often. No help from Nextel. They dont seem to care too much, and blames Motorola. Pass on this phone, and pass on Nextel!

I believe the only thing worse than the high number of i730 dropped calls and/or No Service would be Nextel's Customer Service. They are at the top of the list when it comes to customer abuse and poor or no response to a customer's concerns. 2 Dixie cups and a string would be preferrable. My advice -- stay away from Nextel.

I love my Nextel i730. Great reception, no dropped calls. I even throw my own ringtones on it for free and wallpapers, with MyJal software and the data cable. The GPS directions are totally sweet too! I found a hack to make the disco lights into a status light. So much flexibility, and such a great phone. I wouldn't trade it for anything. Just ordered a clear housing with blue LED's and a flashing blue keypad. It's gonna be sweet. Got it in October when it was $300, but still, couldn't be happier.

I intended to replace both mine and my wife's aging i90c phones with i730. Purchasing and delivery was OK directly from Nextel but then the fun began.
First impression: Cheezy, cheap looking flimsy construction. Battery cover thin shhet of Al, difficult to open and close, data/charger socket covered with a rubber piece which is difficult to open and gets on the way of teh plug. Very annoying...
Initial Setup: This is where it start getting awkward. I charged both phones overnight and unplugged both of them next morning. They were both fully charged. During the charge, they display 'Device Attached' sign. When it was first turned on, searched for the service but since they were not activated, couldn't find the service but dismissing the tab shaped logo covering entire display took soem effort to figure out to be able to change settings etc.
One of the phones completely drained in less than six hours with no use what so ever. I plugged in to recharge but phone starting it's funky light dance and finally after several plug/unplugs recognized the charger. Called the tech support, they said it was faulty. In order to get the replacement, I had to be charged for the replacement, call the finance office of Nextel to dispute the charge once I send in teh non-working one. Otherwise it takes two months credit to be given back to my account. That's more than annoying!!!
Then next day, when I was ready to activate my wife's phone (once she came back from out of town), I discovered that that phone went crazy as well. Dancing lights and turnig on/off by itself and finally 'Incompatible device' sign for the charger.

That was it for me. I decided to return both and be over with it. It is going to be a painfull experience to sort out billing problems I fear.

Overall, i730 fells like, looks like and acts like a cheap version of i90c with color screen and shinny skin! I pass....

This phone sucks! It drops to many calls and about 25% of my calls are interupted by statics or it pauses in the middle of the coversation for a good minute or two!!! I hate it!

This phone is okay. It can't store photos, the cool disco lights only come on with the silly ring tones, and the battery lasts about 1/8 of the time they say it does. But reception is good, speakerphone is way loud and even though I've dropped it a hundred times, it keeps going.

This is one of the best cells I have ever had. By all means, I can not find one flaw on this phone. I've had about 25 cell phones during my mobile life experience and about all major service carriers to exist. This is by far the the slimest stylish phone I've seen. Speakers are as loud as hell. GPS is just an awsome feature, not to mention all the ring tones u can assign to each caller. best of all, Nextel has it. One of the best carriers out there. Best reception and best customer serivice and plans. To top it all up.. I got this phone for $24.00 with a contract. Damn am I a happy bastard or what !!? Take my advice.. Motorola i730 with Nextel is way better than what u can have out there.

this phone is awesome!! it has everything you could possibly want. The phone has the best signal out of any t-mobile, verizon or anyone elses phones. The phone is also lightweight and alot more portable than the bulky i60's and i90's that nextel had before. Awesome phone

I use Clarity's Way-To-Go software for navigation and directions (with the i730 GPS). I've tried others, it's far superior to the rest.

This phone by far is the best investment I've made. For me, the GPS navigation system that you can get through www.telenav.com for $5.99 per month gives you turn by turn directions anywhere in the U.S.. The system can hold up to 10 addresses and by utilizing GPS, it guides you to your destination by voice and graphics. This is great for me becuase I travel alot. Great phone, looks, and java applications make this the best I had so far. The olny bad thing is nextel's customer service, tech support .
